Dominican Republic 2003:
R&R IN THE DR

Sometimes researching guide books can be a pain, but at others it's smooth as silk. Fortunately the latter was the case on a research trip for the Spiral Guide to the Dominican Republic (published by the AA in Britain and AAA in the USA in 2004). Thanks to the help of the national tourism board, Ron's trip took in the entire country - from the colonial capital Santo Domingo to the remote southwest and the central highlands, then along the north coast and round the Samana Peninsula before continuing along the south and east coasts with a sweep round to Bavaro. With its fabulous beaches, adventure sports, tasty cuisine, infectious music and friendly folks, it is easy to see why the DR is currently the Caribbean's most popular destination.
